Socktober

The women of St. Ruth’s Circle are proud to launch our 6th Annual Socktober Drive to support our neighbors without housing in Winston-Salem. Socks are one of the most requested items at shelters nationwide, and together we can help keep feet clean, dry, and warm as the weather turns colder. Last year, St. Paul’s donated 2,831 pairs of socks—this year, we’re aiming for 3,000! A portion of this year’s collection will support a Sesquicentennial Outreach Project benefitting Samaritan Ministries in the spring.
We welcome new socks of all sizes. You can donate through our Amazon Wishlist or place donations in the bin at the Goodheart Entrance (off Pilot View Street). Please note that only new pairs can be accepted and that everyday socks are best. Monetary donations are also welcome—we’ll use them to purchase additional socks.
In addition to Socktober, we’re also holding a Share the Warmth Blanket Drive, in partnership with City with Dwellings and the Winston-Salem Police Department’s Bike Patrol Unit. We’re collecting new or gently used twin-sized blankets and foil technology emergency blankets. Lightweight fleece blankets are especially appreciated, and emergency blankets can be found at most outdoor or sporting goods stores.
Blanket donations may be placed in the bins at the Goodheart Entrance or on the carts labeled “Share the Warmth.”
