Words that Tell the
Truth: Learning to read,
love and pray the poetry
Christians have inherited a long history of religious poetry, and Episcopalians especially embrace how poets tell the truth about the life of faith. Their voices are in our hymns and in our shared culture, from T.S. Eliot and John Donne, to Emily Dickenson and Thomas Merton. Poetry is a big part of the Bible, too, and we don’t always know what to look for when we read it. Sometimes we don’t know how to appreciate what poetry does to evoke the intense experience of following Jesus. This Lent, join Dixon Kinser, Julie Smith, and Mark and Sara Ardrey-Graves for a deep reflection on the religious poetry found in Scripture and in our faith tradition.
