”Mama exhorted her children at every opportunity to jump at the sun.” -Zora Neale Hurston
If we are to ever achieve racial equity, we must first unpack the stories of who we are and how we arrived here. At its core, Jump at the Sun is a celebration of the ongoing beautiful struggle to realize democracy. We believe every child will benefit from an educational system rooted in truth, one willing to teach all aspects of our national story by weaving together the many cultures that are the strength of our national fabric.
Jump at the Sun is a grassroots initiative supported by Action for Equity, Bookmarks, Heritage 365, Read Write Spell, and the Winston-Salem Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. One of its goals is to provide texts to each Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school to facilitate the district’s infusion-curriculum instruction.
